Rei Álvarez is an internationally acclaimed songwriter, lyricist, percussionist, and vocalist, best known for his work with the pioneering salsa ensemble Bio Ritmo and the new wave bolero band Miramar. His poetic, evocative lyrics weave classic Latin traditions with contemporary and experimental influences, shaping the modern sound of salsa and bolero. Álvarez’s distinctive storytelling and artistry have earned him widespread recognition, including the Virginia Commission for the Arts Songwriting Fellowship in 2023.
