Reinaldo Alvarez is a Puerto Rican visual artist, musician, and cultural innovator known for his vibrant paintings, digital art, and intricate illustrations inspired by the rich folklore and heritage of his homeland. A self-taught artist, Alvarez began drawing and painting at a young age, developing a signature style that reinterprets traditional Puerto Rican iconography—most notably, the Vejigante mask, a symbol of playful and mischievous spirits in Puerto Rican culture.
His work has been exhibited in Virginia, New York, and Puerto Rico, and in 2026, one of his album artworks will be featured in the opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino exhibit.
Beyond the visual arts, Alvarez is a well-respected musician, singer, and composer. He is the founder of the internationally renowned salsa orchestra Bio Ritmo and the new wave bolero band Miramar. Based in Richmond, VA, he also works as a vinyl DJ selector and a Spanish-language interpreter, continuing to bridge cultures through both art and music.
